Tx DPS investigating a fatal two vehicle crash

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred June 26, 2020, at approximately 9:08 pm on Highway US 57.

According to DPS Safety Education / Media & Communications officer Staff Sergeant Erick Estrada, the crash occurred 7 miles west of La Pryor, TX. and preliminary investigation revealed a 2007 BMW passenger car was eluding a Zavala County Sheriff’s deputy traveling westbound.

While the passenger car continued evading, it struck a 2004 Chevrolet van from behind, and caused both vehicles to lose control and rollover multiple times.

The driver of the BMW, Enrique Maldonado 18 YO, died on scene due to injuries sustained during the crash; furthermore, it was also found that Maldonado didn’t have a seat belt, and was ejected from his vehicle.

The driver of the Chevrolet van sustained bodily injuries and was air lifted to a hospital in San Antonio, TX in stable condition.

DPS Troopers are further investigating this fatal crash.
