The City of Eagle Pass will be limiting its Independence Day Celebration to just a Fireworks display amidst the COVID-19 Virus Pandemic.
The Eagle Pass City Council met on Tuesday in which they discussed the item and concerns over having such a massive event with the high number of COVID-19 infections in our community.
Up until today there are 200 positive cases for COVID-19.
During the meeting the City Council agreed that the city would not be putting on the customary Independence Day celebration with music and all the festivities.
The item was taken into executive session and once back in open session, Mayor Sifuentes made the announcement.
“After much discussion and the concerns of large gatherings, especially in light of the Increases in COVID-19 cases in our community and across the State we will limit the 4th of July event to strictly just the fireworks display,” said Mayor Sifuentes.
The City of Eagle Pass is taking these precautions to continue working on stopping the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Just this week we saw the largest increase of COVID-19 cases with 31 positive cases announced in just one day.
