Primary Season in full force, Illegal to destroy Campaign Signs

With the Texas Primary Elections less than 10 days away, things are becoming heated.

Recently, like in other election times, candidates are reporting that some of their political signs have been defaced, and or stolen.

We must remind, anyone who is responsible for such actions that it is crime to deface/ destroy or steal a political campaign sign.

The removing or destroying of campaign signs is punishable by a fine and jail time.

Remember that the state statute says it is illegal to “steal, willfully deface, mutilate or destroy any campaign yard sign on private property.” The crime is punishable by a fine up to $2,500, up to a year in jail or a combination of both.

Regardless of how someone feels about a candidate, the election process or the signs themselves, removing them for any purpose without permission is still against the law unless they are on that person’s property.
