Voting is of great importance as it gives you an opportunity to exercise one of your freedoms as a United States Citizen.
During the Eagle Pass City Special Election a fresh group of new candidates to the political spectrum have been urging young voters to exercise that very freedom.
Local Attorney and Candidate for City Council Place 4 Rolando Salinas has been promoting throughout the early voting period for young city residents to vote.
“ We highly encourage our young community members to come out and vote. It’s of great importance to do so,” said Salinas.
Salinas has been able to meet with many young and first time voters who are eager to be part of the Democratic election process.
The reality has been, not only in Maverick County but across the nation that young voters notoriously neglect the importance of voting.
“ We want to change that. And we challenge our community’s young people to exercise their freedom at the election polls,” added Salinas.
The young individual in our community and across the nation are very important on both sides of the aisle.
Key issues within our governing bodies are closely related to the young demographic and their futures.
This very fact, makes it imperative for them to educate themselves on political issues and take to the polls.
This election is literally about waking up the sleeping giant (young voter) to come out and participate in the Democratic process.
For years, the majority of voters have been of the ages of 35 years and older. With only a paltry amount of voters between the ages of 18 to 29 deciding to participate. That has to change in order to reflect the powerful political force that they can be.
