Surge in voting for Special City Elections surpasses previous years

The Second week of early voting for the Special City Election is set to begin on Tuesday with extended hours.

City Voters are urged to come out and vote.

The Polling site will be open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at the City of Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center located at 480 S Adams St.

Voting started on Wednesday, January 15 and had 402 votes cast.

Inclement weather the following two days did not stop voters from exercising their freedom to vote.

On Thursday, January 16 there were 254 votes cast. The following day, Friday there were 256 people who came out to vote.

In that three day span there were 912 votes recorded, on pace to surpass previous election totals.

The 2020 City Special Election vote count for the first three days of early voting represents 48.2% of the entire votes cast in the entire 2017 election process which only had 1,891 votes cast.

A rising interest in voter participation can clearly be seen and is surely attributed to the fact that there are 5 new candidates running in this race.
