Poncho Nevarez, a Democrat from Eagle Pass, who chairs the House Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee, announced Friday, his intent to not run for re-election, statingthat it’s “time to come home.”
He stated that family and health come first and he was ready to dedicate time to them saying, “…my family needs me and I need them.”
Nevarez has been in his post as State Representative since 2013 and in a highly Democratic district, will likely stay Democrat.
Rumors of who will replace Nevarez circle abound the District as the registration period opens on November 9, 2019.
However, it has been reported that respected and long-time local Attorney Heriberto “Eddie” Morales may throw his hat in the ring.
