Sheriff’s Deputies involved in pursuit and arrest for a controlled substance

Maverick County Sheriff’s deputies patrolling FM 1021 in the early morning hours of Thursday, October 24 were involved in a vehicle pursuit after a failed attempt to make a traffic stop on a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe for a minor infraction.

The vehicle would come to a complete stop on the 300 block of Carla Drive in the Chula Vista Sector of the community and the occupants attempted to flee the scene on foot.

The driver identified as thirty-four year old Richard John Rodriguez ran towards the rear of a residence and was quickly apprehended. His passenger, twenty-two year old Loren Johnston entered a residence but was placed under arrest shortly thereafter.

A check of Ms. Johnston’s purse revealed a baggie containing 12 pills of a controlled substance (methylphenidate) which she did not have a prescription for. Both subjects were transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing and the vehicle was towed to the Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
