Dos Republicas applies for renewal and revision of Mining Permit

After approximately 6 years of mining in our community, Dos Republicas Coal Partnership has applied for a renewal and revision of Surface Mining and Reclamation Permit No. 42 B Eagle Pass Mine.

Dos Republicas is proposing a permit term of five years for this renewal application. The five-year disturbance area contains approximately 2,629.2 acres. The anticipated annual production of coal, by tonnage, for this proposed permit term is approximately 2.8million tons per year with a total for the five-year mining term of 14 million tons.

The permit area lies immediately east of Farm Road 1588 and includes portions of the Elm Creek Watershed and a portion of the Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No.1’s Lateral 20. The Union Pacific Railroad also traverses the permit area. A bridge is being proposed to be built over the railroad track within the permit boundary, for access to the east side of the permit area.

This application seeks to renew and revise the permit issued by the Railroad Commission back on May,, 8 2013.

Interested persons are invited to submit written comments on the application within 30 days after the last date of publication of this notice which will be published once a week for four consecutive weeks. A written request for hearing must be filed within 45 days of the last date of publication of the notice.
