The City of Eagle Pass has agreed to provide emergency services to the re-opening Geo Prison Facility once it opens before the end of the year.
The Eagle Pass City Council voted in favor of the request at their recent meeting in which they was presented information what was being sought and a recommendation from the city administration.
The City Council discussed the item request and voted in favor of providing the services to the Private Prison facility pending legal counsel review of the contract.
A formal contract is in the process of being set which will provide Emergency ambulance services and fire protection if needed as per the contract agreement.
The City will not be conducting any type of inspections at the facility. Those inspections are to be conducted by Federal and state agencies.
The Prison facility has been working to open up the detention facility for more than a year and is already in a contract with the Department of Corrections in Idaho to bring in and house up to 600 inmates.
The opening of this facility is expected to bring in at least 130 jobs into the community.
