District Attorney Roberto Serna recently discussed various criminal cases that are set to go to trial including a murder trial involving 22-year-old Christopher Anthony Herrera de Leon who is being charged with the murder of 27-year-old Miguel Salinas.
Serna stated that the case is set to go forward and initial trial proceedings should begin by September of this year.
De Leon is accused of murdering Salinas and seriously wounding his 34-year-old brother Sabino Salinas in the month of March. This incident occurred while the three individuals attended a get together at a home in the Deer Run sector of the community and a fight broke out between the individuals.
D.A. Serna has stated that the investigation has continued since the tragic incident and that the DA’s office has gathered sufficient evidence to proceed against the accused.
Herrera de Leon is being charged with one count for first-degree murder and another for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
De Leon’s bond was set at $1,000,000 for murder in the 1st and $20,000 for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
De Leon remains incarcerated since the day of the tragic incident.
Sheriff reports show that it’s alleged that de Leon used a Glock 40 to commit the crime.
Miguel Salinas died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the chest area while his brother Sabino Salinas was shot in the upper arm area and flown to a San Antonio hospital in critical condition where he spent weeks in Intensive Care.
Sabino Salinas eventually recuperated from his injury.
