The registration period for the November 6 Eagle Pass Independent School District election came to a close on Monday, August 20 with one more candidate registering to run.
In a surprising registration, former School Board Trustee and longtime newspaper owner, Rex McBeath signed up to challenge incumbent Trustee in Place No. 4 Hilda Martinez Caballero.
No one else registered by the 5:00 pm deadline.
The EPISD elections will all now be competitive as all three positions will be contested,
The election race is now set and will see longtime EPISD Board member and incumbent Lupita Fuentes in position No. 5 seek re-election. Fuentes will be challenged by Mayito Obregon a first-time candidate and Ancira Ford Sales Manager.
In Place No. 3 ex- EPISD Board member Ignacio “Nacho” Saucedo, registered and will go up against longtime local attorney Victor E. Perry for Place No. 3 which is currently held by Rudy Bowels.
Mr. Bowles will be retiring from public office after serving our community in various roles including as Maverick County Judge for many years.
In the EPISD position No. 4 Dr. Hilda Martinez Caballero has also registered to seek re-election and will now go up against former EPISD Board Trustee Rex McBeath.
