Maverick County Commissioners Court proposes new tax rate

The Maverick County Commissioners Court approved their proposed tax rate for budget purposes to not exceed $0.5534 per every $100 valuation.

During their meeting held on Monday, August 13, Tax Assessor-Collector Isamary Sanchez Villareal presented the court the official 2018/2019 Effective Tax Rate of $ 0.4916 and the Rollback Rate of $ 0.5793.

Commissioners Court proceeded to move onto approving the 2018/2019 Planning Calendar proposed 2018.2019 tax rate, publication of the proposed rate and public hearings.

The tax rate for budget purposes was proposed to be set to not exceed $ 0.5534 per every $ 100 valuation. Maverick County’s 2017 tax rate is at $0.512.

“This is the preliminary budget and is not written in stone,”said Judge Saucedo.

This rate was used for the proposed budget and will be published as is to be used for additional Maintenance and Operations expenses.

The rate will be further discussed and could be lowered in the following weeks as Commissioners Court holds their public hearings and budget workshops.

The Maverick County Commissioners Court will be holding their first tax rate public hearing on August 30 and a second hearing to be on September 6.
