A 16-year-old juvenile who was detained for some type of domestic violence-related incident attempted to choke/hang himself with the seat belt of the Sheriff Department vehicle he was being transported in announced Sheriff Tom Schmerber.
The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon in the Rosita Valley sector of the community.
Sheriff Schmerber states that deputies responded to an incident call and upon arrival at the scene encountered the minor who was agitated and very aggressive towards his family and law enforcement agents.
Deputies had to subdue the minor who confronted them and resisted being detained.
Deputies report that while the minor was being transported to the Tom Bowels Detention Center the teen who was handcuffed managed to place the vehicles safety belt around his neck and began choking himself with it.
Sheriff deputies stopped the teenager from causing any serious harm to himself.
Eagle Pass Fire Department Emergency Services personnel were dispatched to provide some medical assistance to the teen.
The teen was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center Emergency room for further treatment.
A decision was made and the teen was then transported to an MHMR facility in San Antonio, Texas for a further mental evaluation.
