Maverick County Sheriff deputies arrested two male adults after responding to shots fired emergency call.
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber reported that the incident occurred on Monday night in an area near the Pueblo Nuevo/ Chula Vista sectors of the community.
Schmerber states that Sheriff deputies were able to track down a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe believed to have been involved in the shots fired incident.
Deputies made contact with four individuals along Canal St. and detained them for questioning.
Upon further investigating one of the individuals identified as 20 – year-old Rene Tovar Jr. Was found to be carrying a firearm on his person.
Tovar was placed under arrest for illegal possession of a firearm.
Upon searching the vehicle deputies found a sawed-off shotgun that had been tampered with and its serial numbers had been erased.
Another of the individuals in the vehicle identified as 20-year -old Manuel Chavez stated that he was the owner of the weapon.
Chavez’s information was put through the criminal check system and was found to have a felony conviction.
Chavez was then arrested on “Felon in Possession of a Fire Arm”, a felony and for tampering with a firearm as well.
Both individuals are also facing charges for unlawfully discharging a firearm.
The two individuals were then transported to the Tom Bowels Detention Center for processing.
Sheriff Schmerber states that the other two individuals in the vehicle were released and will not face any charges.
