U.S. Border Patrol Disrupt Another Stash House

Another stash house with undocumented immigrants has been taken down by United States Customs and Border Protection agents and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and with the assistance of the Maverick County Sheriff Department.

A raid was conducted on a house located on Progreso St. in the Loma Bonita Sector of the community on Wednesday, July, 11 2018.

Preliminary Information state that officials from the federal agency descended upon the house looking for undocumented immigrants and anyone connected to their smuggling.

ICE Agents did make contact with a group of individuals that were determined to be undocumented. They were all processed and detained. No further information is available as to how many undocumented immigrants were there and if anyone connected to their smuggling was also apprehended.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber states that the Sheriff Department did assist Federal agents in the raid under a law enforcement role including securing the perimeter and other duties.

A major crackdown on human smuggling is taking place in Maverick County with at least 5 stash houses being taken down by Federal agents in recent months.

This type of crackdown shows that the Eagle Pass to San Antonio corridor is a highly used stretch of highway used for different type of illicit activities including human smuggling.
