Heightened security at Maverick County Courthouse due to Amezcua sentencing

The Maverick County Courthouse was under strict security measures on Friday, July 6 as District Attorney Roberto Serna and District prosecutors were there to present the sentencing phase against Jorge Amezcua who plead guilty of Aggravated Assault against a Peace Officer back in May.

Security measures were heightened as D.A Serna received some type of death threat prior to this sentencing.

The court room was secured by armed Eagle Pass Police officers and Maverick County Sheriff deputies in full tactical gear.

Police Department and Sheriff Deputies also assisted with armed gaurds and patrol in a four block area around the Maverick County Courthouse.

Law enforcement officials and District Attorney Roberto Serna we’re not able to give much detail about the threat but it was confirmed that it was coming from a credible source aligned with criminal organization.

Amezcua was sentnced to ten years with credit for time served in a state penitentiary.
