According to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (THHSC) there has been a decrease in individuals receiving Food Stamps in Maverick County in the past years.
(THHSC) reports that there is 16,327 people or 27 % of the local population receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, as of May 2018. This is a decrease from the same month in 2017 which had 17,120. This is 793 fewer people dependent on Food Stamps or a 5 % decrease as compared to the same time period in 2017.
At the end of 2017, Maverick County reported 28 % of the population or 16,952 people dependent Food Stamps. In 2016 it was reported that 29 % or 17,271 people were on Food Stamps in Maverick County.
Overall a decrease in SNAP beneficiaries has been seen in the past years locally with slight sporadic increases during some months.
During 2010 Maverick County had the largest amount of people on food stamps with 17,635 recipients or 29 % of its population(60,000).
