Texas Senate District 19 candidate and former State Representative and
U.S. Congressman Pete Gallego released a statement on the recent resignation of Carlos Uresti.
“Today, State Senator Carlos Uresti submitted his resignation. As the legal process continues, my focus
remains the people of Texas Senate District 19. I speak to these Texans every day. All express a need
for effective new representation untainted by scandal.
Senate District 19 has been without an effective voice for months as the Uresti saga has unfolded.
Constituents deserve immediate new representation in Austin. They deserve continued service without
further interruption – and it’s time to move forward.
“Governor Abbott has previously acknowledged that it is “imperative to restore representation” in a district
with a vacancy. In the spirit of restoring such representation, I encourage the governor to call an election
as soon as possible.”
