The Maverick County Sheriff Department were called to Comanche Ranch on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 regarding the finding of a deceased human being.
Upon arrival to the scene deputies and other law enforcement agents did find the lifeless body of a male adult who was determined to have possibly died from a heat- related cause.
It was determined that the individual was possibly an undocumented immigrant who was attempting to cross into the U.S. through the intensely hot summer weather.
This is the first undocumented immigrant death related to the intense heat as of this year.
Every year many people perish attempting to cross into the U.S. Illegally, falling victim to the extreme heat.
The individual was later identified as Mexican National 49 -year- old Floriberto Plata Mondragon. ‘
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber states that Mondragon was found near a hunting blind which he could have been using to shelter away from the searing heat.
Schmerber states that Mondragon had passed away hours possibly before he was found. Justice of the Peace, Dora Madera, was called in to give a pronouncement of death.
