Sheriff’s Deputies respond to an Motor Vehicle Accident on El Indio Hwy

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call regarding an accident in an area near El Indio Highway on Thursday April 12.

Upon arrival deputies began to investigate the accident and could not find the person driving the Mercury.

Deputies were notified that the man had fled on foot leaving his vehicle behind. Deputies went on to catch up the male subject and was then detained.

The man was identified as 59 year old Leonardo Alonso Coss who was believed to the responsible party.

Coss was believed to be intoxicated . Deputies then proceeded to arrest Coss on charges of driving while intoxicated, causing a crash and fleeing the scene.

In accordance to the Sheriff’s report, Coss was driving a 2007 Mercury Mariner Vehicle when he impacted a 2004 Ford Expedition as he tried to enter the Stripes gas station at the corner of El Indio Highway and FM 1021.

The driver of the Ford Expedition was injured, while the Mercury driver got out of the car and fled on foot.
