Mayor appoints two individuals to vacant Housing Authority seat

Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu has appointed two new individuals to the Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Directors this past week.

One of Cantu’s responsibilities as Mayor is to oversee appointments for the Housing Authority.

The vacancies were created due to the stepping down of one of the existing board directors and another position that had been vacant for close two years.

Attorney Rolando Salinas who was appointed to the position by Cantu back in April 2014 has left the EPHA Board after 4 years of public service.

The two individuals that have been appointed to the vacant positions are Rafael Garza and Romelia Cardona.

Garza currently works at the Eagle Pass Water Works system and worked as assistant for ex-city manager Gloria Barrientos.

Romelia Cardona is known as a community volunteer and social services leader.

Cardona was the very first Director of the Maverick County Social Services and Food Pantry. She has also served as a Board of Director of the South Texas Food Pantry, City Councilwoman and Volunteer with the Teleton Navideno for many years.

The Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners included Chairperson Ana B. Gonzalez and Commissioners Rolando Salinas, Rudy Valdez, Delfina M. Garza, and Sandra Cruz who resigned since 2016. The position had been vacant for approximately 22 months.

The new EPHA Board of Commissioners include Chairperson Ana M. Gonzalez, Delfina Morales Garza, Rudy Valdez. Romelia Cardona and Rafael Garza.

The EPHA board will hold a meeting this week where the new board members will take possession of their seats as commissioners.
