The Maverick County Hospital District held a meeting on Tuesday, March 27 In which they discussed and acted on various important topics including giving a contract extension to Chief Executive Officer Terri Patlan-Contreras.
Contreras contractual obligations with the hospital district expired on March 2017 and had been extended to end by March.
During executive session on Tuesday’s meeting the Hospital District Board of Trustees revisited Contreras extension and work outlook. Once back in open session Board President Adolfo Olivares asked if anyone had a recommendation.
Trustee Juan Manuel “Chuco” Farias asked for the board to consider extending Contreras contract all the away to the end of January 2019. Ronald Hixson seconded the motion.
A spirited discussion ensued between the board on the proposed extension and what could be construe as a premature action which needed more consideration. At least two members were not in agreement of the proposed action to extend Contreras contract for 10 months.
Back during September 2017, the MCHD Board of Trustees had evaluated Contreras’s work/performance under executive session pursuant to Government Code Section 551.074 Personnel Matters. The board did not act on a proposed contract extension but voted in favor of setting a 6-month contract with a re-evaluation to be done at that time. The 6-month period is over in the month of March.
The proposed contract extension was approved on a split three to two vote with Board members Olivares, Farias and Hixson voted in favor while Trustee Becky Robinson and Jesus Casas voting against.
Contreras was hired as the Hospital District’s CEO back in May 7, 2014 after working at the organizations Chief Financial Officer for approximately 13 years.
