Suspect identified in shooting, Bond set

The suspect accused of murdering 27 year old Michael Salinas and wounding his older brother 34 year old Sabino Salinas after a fight broke out at a get together early Sunday morning has now been charged for the crimes.

The accused has been identified as 22 year old Christoper Anthony Herrera de Leon, who is charged with one count for first-degree murder and another for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. De Leon’s bond is set as $1,000,000 for murder in the 1st and $20,000 for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Maverick County Sheriff, Tom Schmerber, reported that De Leon was brought before a Judge on Monday afternoon who read him his charges and set a bail of $1,000,000 for the murder charge and $ 20,000 for the aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.

Christoper Anthony de Leon is being accused of the shooting death of Miguel Mike Salinas, 27 years old and wounding Sabino Salinas with a Glock 40. To date it’s unknown if the weapon has the proper permits and is registered. Another question that remains is the reason behind the violent incident.

De Leon was beaten and witnesses say was hit with some type of bottle before the shooting took place.

Sheriff Schmerber did not specify the times Michael Salinas had been shot but did state that he had received a gun shot in the chest area. Sabino Salinas was shot in the upper arm area and remains in critical condition after spending hours in an operating room in a San Antonio, Texas hospital.

Under the law a suspect and or accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty
