Ex-Tejano star Joe Lopez was released from Huntsville Penitentiary on Thursday March 15, 2018 after more than 11 years of being imprisoned.
In 2006 Lopez was convicted and sentenced by a Cameron County jury to 32 years imprisonment for the rape of Krystal Lopez who was 13 years old at the time of the crime in 2004. Lopez is the victims uncle. Krystal Lopez is now 27 years old.
Lopez was found guilty of one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and was sentenced to 20 years, was found guilty on a second count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and given another 8 years and also sentenced to four years for indecency with a child.
Lopez is the co-founder of the award winning Tejano music group Mazz. Grupo Mazz has had an illustrious musical career with him and for the past 11 years without him,
The Texas Pardons and Parole Board revised Joe Lopez case back in January and pardoned him granting him parole. Lopez had gone through a nine-month sex offender treatment program which was considered in the review.
Although Lopez is now free his release has numerous conditions including supervised parole through 2026. Lopez is also not allowed to go near Harris County without prior approval. This is where his victim currently resides.
