Maverick County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Zaragoza St. in Balcones Heights in south Maverick County, on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at approximately 5 A.M.
Maverick County Sheriff’s Department reports noted that the victims were sitting inside an automobile when they were approached by several suspicious individuals and were attempted to be robbed as an argument ensued between them. A male subject proceeded to pull out a gun and began firing at the two occupants in the automobile. The failed robbery resulted in two men being injured of gunshot wounds.
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber identified one of the victims as a 22 year old male who received a gunshot wound to his right leg while the second victim is 16 year old male juvenile who received a gunshot wound to the hand. According to reports, the assailants fled the scene.
The two injured men were immediately transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center Emergency Room to treat injuries sustained.
Based upon reports, a subject was taken into custody in the area and could be charged with aggravated robbery if magistrated.
The case is currently under investigation by the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Rangers.
