The Eagle Pass City Council held a meeting on February 12 in which they approved the third and final reading of the proposed propositions to go up for Charter election on May 5.
During the course of the meeting the city council moved into executive session to further discuss the item.
Once back in open session Mayor Cantu and Legal Counsel presented certain changes to the propositions.
The city council then moved forward with voting the ordinance into effect.
The Ordinance will now trigger certain dates and ultimately an amendments election.
The amendments being sought by the city council include to add terms of Mayor and two City Council Members from the City at large, and two Council Members from numbered districts, and establishing three numbered districts; providing for compensation for Mayor and City Council Members :Providing for appointment and evaluation of a City Secretary by the City Council; providing for the approval of the City Council for the selection of a Department Head by the City Manager; providing for a candidate filing fee or, alternatively, signatures to become a candidate for City Council or Mayor and providing for an annual report to be submitted to the City Council by the City Manager updating the City’s Master Plan.
Ultimately, the city voter will have the last say as to what propositions they decide to keep or vote down in the city special election during the month of May.
