Eagle Pass Business & Economic Development Committee kicks off training sessions

The Eagle Pass Business & Economic Development Committee (BEDC) will kick-off it’s Young Professionals Group (YPG) at a reception on February 22, 2018, at 5:30 p.m., at the new Rancho Steak Bar & Grill.

This Young Professionals Group (YPG) is aimed at retaining local professional talent in Eagle Pass and the region. The group is open for working professionals between the ages of 21-35 years old. The YPG will also serve as a unique mentoring opportunity where members will be mentored by seasoned senior executives, peer-to-peer, and serve as role-models for high school students.

Eagle Pass High School Work-based Learning Coordinator Rachel Sahagun will serve as the YPG lead mentor and fall under the BEDC’s Labor Workforce & Training and Executive Labor Mentoring Sub-Committees. EPISD Superintendent Gilberto Gonzalez serves as the Labor Workforce & Training Chair and Mall de las Aguilas General Manager Pat Saucedo serves as the Executive Labor Mentoring Chair.

“As an educator, I wholeheartedly support any program that will help us stop the brain drain and keep our local talent in Eagle Pass,” says Mayor Pro-tem Yolanda Ramon. “I salute BEDC Chairman Morris Libson, Superintendent Gilberto Gonzalez and Pat Saucedo for having Rachel Sahagun lead the Young Professionals Group, because she is highly committed to our community’s young people,” adds Ramon.

City Councilman Luis Sifuentes, who is also an educator stated, “Our young adults are tomorrow’s leaders. So, there is no better time to get the young adults of our community involved in a leadership program that is going to benefit our community down the road. I applaud Ms. Sahagun for taking on the challenge and responsibility of leading our young minds.”

Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu, City Councilmen Rudy Villalpando, and Billy Davis have also asked that the BEDC support professional development of our local workforce that will help create a stronger atmosphere for economic development. Eagle Pass Acting City Manager Ivan Morua, Assistant City Finance Director Placido Madera, and several BEDC members have already agreed to serve as mentors for the YPG.
