Eagle Pass Bridge System reports overall increase in traffic, Pedestrian traffic decreases

The Eagle Pass Bridge system total amount of crossings in 2017 surpassed 2016 by 33,868 more crossings.

During 2017 there were 3,467,327 crossings as compared to 2016 which had 3,433,459 crossings.

These crossings include cars and pickups, 18-wheeler trucks, buses, motorcycles and pedestrians.

The total amount of increased crossings signifies a 0,9 percent increase from 2016 to 2017.

The increased change from 2015 which had 3,343,508 crossings to 2016 with 3,433.459 was 2.6 percent or 89,951 more crossings. From 2014 to 2015 there was a 5.3 percent increase going from 3,174,485 crossings to 3,343,508. During 2013 there were 3,068,732 which increased to 3,174,485 in 2014 or 105,753 more crossings. This increase signals a 3.4 percent increase.

There was a 2.7 percent increase from 2012 to 2013 going from 2,985,000 crossings to 3,068,732 or 83,732 more crossings.

Just alone in car and pickup crossings, fiscal year 2017 had 2,628,256 crossings. The increase activity in cars and pickups as compared to 2016 previous year which had 2,576,533 was 51,723 more cars and pickups or a 2 percent increase in crossings

During 2015 there were 2,508,573 cars and pickups crossings which increased by 3 percent into 2016 (2,576,533) or 67,960 more cars and pickup crossings. From 2014 to 2015 cars and pickup crossings increased from 2,304,096 in 2014 to 2,508,573 or an increase of 199,277 a 9 percent increase.

Commercial traffic during this time increased by 36,154 more commercial trucks going from 127,919 in 2014 to 164,073 in 2017 or 28.2 % increase.

During 2014 there were 127,919 commercial truck crossings which increased to 133,586 or 4.4 % in 2015. In 2016 commercial traffic grew by 10.9 % to 148,223 as compared to 2015. During 2017 it grew to 164,073 commercial trucks or a 10.6 % increase from the previous year.

Traffic crossings through the Eagle Pass Bridge system has been increasing but if you compare car and pickup crossing totals ,2017 has had the lowest increase in that type of vehicle crossings as compared to any other year including 2016, 2015, and 2014. Commercial Traffic however has increased by 28 % as compared to 2014 totals.

Pedestrian crossings have decreased on a yearly basis going from 741,387 in 2014 to 700,154 in 2015 to 703,710 during 2016 and 667,611 in 2017. There has been a decrease of 36,099 less pedestrian crossings in 2017 as compared to 2016. The total decrease from 2014 to 2017 has been 73,776 less pedestrian crossings or a -9.9 % decrease.
