Politics continues to be a full contact sport in Maverick County as the deadline to register for the March 2018 primary elections is counting down. Numerous individuals who are interested for many of the political positions open are expected to sign up this week. Up to now more than 10 individuals will be filing their candidacy this week for positions such as Maverick County Commissioner Pct 4 and 2, and all the Justice of the Peace positions as well.
Registrations for the Position of 293rd District Judge will be taking place in Austin, Texas with the State Democratic Party. In this position it’s believed that their will be at least 3 candidates registering to bid for the position that is to be left open as long time District Judge Cynthia Muniz is set to retire after years of public service. Maribel Flores and Cecilia Mascorro are expected to sign up before the end of the week.
In the Maverick County Judge race up to now there have been 3 registrations including incumbent Judge David R. Saucedo, Gloria Hernandez and Rudy Bowles. Maverick County Democratic Chair Luis A. Ruiz has confirmed that he has, up to now, 10 individuals that will be signing up this week to run for many of the different positions up for grabs. “We’re 5 days away from the last day for registrations and we are going to have a blitzkrieg of registrations from here to that deadline. I can confirm that this week we’re having up to 10 candidates filing their candidacy. This is for various positions on the ballot.” Mr. Ruiz states that the Democratic Party will be meeting and appointing precinct chairs and the party’s secretary.
