MCHD looking into 25 year contract with Universal Health System

The Maverick County Hospital District (MCHD) ordered that MCHD General Counsel Alex Fuller look into the districts obligations, responsibilities, and options concerning this 25 year long agreement and contracts with Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center regarding their County Indigent Uncompensated Care Agreement and Medical Office Building Land Lease Agreement and certain requisites under such contracts that the District feel are leaving them with a short end of the financial stick.

During the MCHD meeting held on Tuesday September 26 the MCHD Board of Directors went into executive session to discuss the issues regarding both agreements.

Once back in open sessions the MCHD Board of Directors voted in favor for Fuller to proceed and begin to look into what can be done and the Districts options under those two agreements that still have a lifespan of approximately 8 years.

The issue has been brought up in the past but had not been acted on and is now on the boards sight to clearly look at what transpired under the agreements and how the District was left with what is often described as a no win situation.

(MCHD) went into a contract with Universal Health Systems dba Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center n the year 2000 under a buy-sell agreement between the parties. This agreement left the District with certain requirement they must adhere to including non control of leasing office space and a non compete clause as well.
