Teen Driving and safety continue being a problem in the State of Texas

During 2016 there were approximately 57,974 teen drivers between the age of 18 to 13 years old who were involved in a motor vehicle accident when they were driving. During 2016 there were 229 teens from the age of 13 to 18 years old who were involved in a fatal crash while they were driving in the State of Texas.

Records show that 106 eighteen year old’s were involved in a fatal crash while driving, 68 seventeen year old’s, 33 sixteen year old’s, 16 fifteen year old’s, 5 fourteen yer old’s and one 13 year old. Locally, Pablo Garcia Jr. and a group of C. C. Winn High School students members of the Eagle Pass Teens in the Drivers Seat program continue promoting teen safety behind the wheel in attempts to decrease the number of teen driving accidents not only in our community but all around.

Garcia states that the group continues presenting information at different gatherings and schools in our areas to keep pushing out the importance of safety behind the wheel/ “This is a program that raises awareness of the top 5 risks that teens face behind the wheel such as driving at night, speeding and street racing, distraction such as cell phones, not wearing a seat belt and drinking and driving. ” said Garcia

“We do many program activities in order to bring awareness to the problem including school presentations and other activities throughout the year to help our peers.” “We’re trying to spread out the message about safety, saving lives, buckling up because it’s very important. A lot of people don’t take into consideration that it just takes three seconds and those three seconds could save your life.” concluded Garcia
