Driving While Intoxicated continues being a major problem in our community according to law enforcement daily and monthly departmental reports.
For example, this past weekend 4 individuals were arrested by the Eagle Pass Police Department for Driving While Intoxicated charges.
A review of the most recent monthly departmental report for EPPD shows that during the month of June there were 11 intoxicated drivers and 16 intoxicated pedestrians arrested. During the month of May EPPD arrested 7 people for driving intoxicated and 14 intoxicated pedestrians. Driving While Intoxicated is a serious problem that according to Texas Department of Public Safety occurs way to often in our community.
A detailed review of the Maverick County Sheriff Department arrest book shows that for the past 30 months from January 17, 2014 to July 25, 2017 there have been 801 Public Intoxication arrests while only having 199 Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) arrests by the MCSD in that time.
During the 30-month period alcohol related arrests accounted for 1,001 or 23% of all arrests by the Maverick County Sheriff Department with 4,316 total arrests reported. Public Intoxication arrests accounted for 18% of all total arrests by the Maverick County Sheriff Department in the past 30 months. TXDOT Texas Department of Transportation Crash (CR3) reports has reported that from 2005 to 2016, there have been 464 DUI related accidents in Maverick County.
