Foster Care Intakes in Tri- County Region Show what County has Highest Adoption Rate
Across the United States there are thousands of children who are taken in by Child Protective Services for various reasons such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, medical neglect, incarceration, abandonment, truancy, death and voluntarily placed to name a few.
These children end up in the Foster Care System and are often adopted but many never are. Around the Tri-County are which includes Maverick County the amount of children taken into Forster Care is due to different issues which often jeopardize a child’s life. CPS often times has no other option but to take children away from their paternal parents and put them in foster care.
Often times many of the children who end up in foster care are subjected to neglect due to different circumstances beyond their control such as poverty, high rates of domestic violence, higher than normal unemployment rates and a growing problem with drug use and certain problems will begin to arise eventually.
A review was conducted on the amount of children taken into foster care from Maverick County in the past 8 years from 2008 to 2016.
Reports show that 208 Foster Care cases reported in those 8 years. During 2008 there were 50 cases of foster care intervention reported for Maverick County., 2009 there were 32 cases reported, in 2010 there were 20 cases reported, in 2011,there were 23 cases, in 2012 there were 11 cases, during 2013 there were 21 cases reported , during 2014 there were 20 cases reported, in 2015 there were 17 cases reported and during 2016 there were 14 foster care cases reported in Maverick County. Val Varde County had 279 foster care cases in the same time period. Dimmit County has had 394 foster cases reported from 2008 to 2016 and Zavala county has reported 213 foster care cases reported. Other reasons that children are placed in foster care include juvenile offenses, runaways, truancy and other issue within the home and the parents are unable to properly manage the child’s behavior.
